BESIDES defense, lol. No but seriously if I could only name one thing (which is almost been a pet peeve for me), it would be maintaining leads, especially big leads. Not just referring to the Finals, because for some strange reason the Lakers has been one of those teams that could be up by 50 and win the game by 5, lol. That's always been kind of crazy to me. I mean, do they enjoy hollywood finishes or what is it?

Maintaining leads is crucial. Whenever we always have big leads, we come out of halftime and start playing horrible. That needs to change. When we do bad in the 3rd quarter, everything changes.

when you play defense, you tend to keep big leads.

Toughness and defense= root of all Lakers problems.

It also is a function of young team. More veteran players can maintain that edge even when up by 20-30 points. Defense is about effort and many times the players relax and the defensive intensity drops. A side factor is that this is the NBA and teams always make runs.

I would rather see vlad go then luke. At least does the little stuff pretty good. Like rebounding boxing out stuff like that. He also knows the triangle well. He is much more valuable to our team then he could be to any other team. And he doesn't force dumb shots just to shoot like radman

LUKE - SHOOT BETTER AND STOP BEING MAGIC JOHNSON
    VLAD- STAY ON THE BENCH
LAMAR- DONT GIVE UP, WE WONT TRADE YOU.

Everyone is crazy about trading odom for another SF when we have like 8

hi, i'm a newbie here and i have a question:

am i the only one worried that a triangle with the bigs of bynum, gasol and odom might not work too well?

imo, triangle is scary when the bigs could shoot from the outside as well as the inside. lamar hasn't been consistent from the perimeter, and i'm wondering if pau or andrew could really stretch the offense enough.

or does phil have to consider playing a brand of basketball more like the twin towers of duncan and robinson at times?

In response to your question, I don't think that it will be much of an issue. Think about the beginning of last season. The team did really well with a lineup of Fish, Kobe, Cook, Lamar and Bynum. Cook really wasn't that good of an outside shooter. At best, he was on par with the recent showings of Radmanovic. You don't really need to have too much of an outside presence to get the triangle running. That's the beauty of it. It does however, do best if you have a big that can pass the ball well. Pau does this, and Bynum showed flashes of it before his injury. The key to the triangle is spacing and ball movement. If the floor is spaced out well enough, with enough ball movement, it opens up gaps to slash through. That's where Odom did well, when Pau was inserted into the lineup. So, no, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

LAL2009: Great analysis (sarcasm)- The Lakers need to stop losing leads. How about going a little more in-depth? What do you think he reasons are and how you feel they should, could, would address those issues.

PLygrndrlr: It won't be an issue as long as Gasol looks to pull the jumper from 15 feet at least which he became reluctant to do for some reason.

gemfow: perhaps Pau became too familiar with his back to the basket during the course of the season. i am curious to know which role he and Bynum will assume in the offense.

defensive rotation and pick and roll defense. thats the first step.

    I found this:

    Quote:

Jackson has instructed Bynum to focus this summer on two areas: lateral quickness (screen-and-roll defense) and jumping power (for pursuing rebounds and scoring on put-backs)

if bynum achieve those offseason goals, I can see a better defensive lakers team with lamar, kobe and Pau throwing lobs to Andrew.

That totally makes sense. And thanks for a warm welcome. Smile
