I watched the first pre-season game last night and was impressed by many things - Andrew moving so well and looks like his knee is great! - Fisher continuing his fine play - Pau in limited minutes looked fine-tuned - Mihm looks like he is 100% back - but the guy that really caught my attention was Powell.
I have remarked several times that I loved Ronny, but that Powell will give us more at the power forward spot - and sure enough - at least for the first game I believe this to be correct.
Powell seems to be in excellent condition and very serious about his opportunity with the Lakers. He is a strong, athletic power forward that is not at all lost on defense - this guy can really move his feet and play defense. He also seems to have a real "nose" for rebounds. Like Stu Lance says, "Rebounders go after the rebound - not just let it come to him", that is exactly how Powell plays. He seems to always be around the rebound and either gets it, taps it, or almost snags it. That is an excellent sign. Rebounding is key to any successful team and defense. He provides both. He also showed a nice little 15 footer and shot with confidence. |

| That's right dude! but one player i was impressed the most last nite was that guy named Giles for the Lakers. What's his name. Boy, he's tall, long and can really post up. Is he a PF? See the hook that he did. I hope the Lakers will give this dude a chance. He only needs a chance and experience. |

| I thought Ariza was perfect. Did everything right and made no mistakes. What a find he's become. Just quietly goes about his business as a team player. |

| I agree with all of you guys, PJ may have trouble determining who stays and who goes. I was once again disapointed in Coby Karl. He is supposed to be a good shooter but every time I have watched him play, he misses all of his shots. If it was me, I would let him goand make room for Powell and Giles. |

| I agree, Powell goes after the rebounds and doesn't just let them come to him...he's got good positioning, but there is one thing he can't do that Turiaf could, dance... |

| bynum looked good for his offense and you could see the moves that he worked on.. but all around i thought he was just ok.. his potential and physical appearance is what scares me.. but i was at last nights game with pretty good seats-- he was slow to rotate on defense, he didnt really bother any penetration, and there were times where you could tell he was tired.. on offense he held the ball too long and didnt look to pass, he also didn't set screens away from the ball--something phil wanted him to work on.. |

I agree that defensively Bynum's not there yet. And he looked a little tired toward the end.
Did you see him do that move from the freethrow line where he ball-faked right then dribble-drove left (using his left hand!) and laid it up sweetly off
the glass with, again, his left hand? He also had a nice left hook early on. |

I hope Sun yue gets a chance to play. I want to see what this guys got. Anyways, Andrew Bynum will come around. Its just the first pre season game. Players are just looking to get the rust off. He should be fine once the season starts. |

Yeah. The only thing Ronny has on Powell is the dancing.
God I miss the guy. |

| Powell is a better rebounder although I think Turiaf is a better shotblocker. But for the amount we are paying him I give the Powell signing an A+ |

if he got a little bigger he would resemble something like lamarcus aldridge... but not as good skill-wise just yet... would be nice if we keep him.. like your said hes long and can post and dats what we need |

guys i like so far:
ariza, powell, radman (surprisingly), farmar...
guys on cruise control still so i wont evaluate:
kobe, fish, gasol...
guys that has it but need to get it together:
bynum, odom...
bynum is not playing within the offense, holding the ball for way too long... defensively hes been slow in helping penetration - and i thought he emphasize himself how import team defense would be...
odom is just no where to be found, hes not within the offense nor on the defensive side of the ball... |

| The question mark on Byno was his knee. Now that it appears it is 100%, no worries. The other question mark is Odom's head. Now that it is clearly 25%, we have a lot to worry about. Rest of the team is so talent-laden, no worries. |

i was quite impressed with Josh Powell
he adds a lil better jumper and better rebounding than ROnny
but NO ONE will replace Ronny's heart and enthusiam
he will always be missed |
