Ron Artest is still trying to get comfortable with the Los Angeles Lakers' triangle offense, but the 2004 defensive player of the year is as usual having no problem on the other end of the floor.
Artest and the Lakers play their first road game of the season Tuesday night, when they look to win their 10th straight over the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise.
Artest, who signed a five-year deal with Los Angeles in the offseason, is averaging 8.3 points on 32.1 percent shooting - far below his career averages of 16.1 and 42.2 heading into 2009-10.
"You can't look at the numbers," Lakers guard Kobe Bryant said following Sunday's 118-110 win over Atlanta. "Obviously, we know he's capable of putting up big numbers. But tonight his defense was outstanding."
After Joe Johnson scored 18 first-quarter points, Artest helped the Lakers (2-1) limit the Hawks' star guard to nine over the final 36 minutes.
"We picked up our intensity, and it all started with No. 37," Bryant said of Artest. "He picked up the energy level defensively, and I told him the game was on him. I felt like the energy really changed the whole complexity of the game, and we all kind of rallied behind him."
While Artest could be called on to defend Thunder forward Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City has a tall challenge in slowing down Bryant.
That task will likely fall on the shoulders of guard Thabo Sefolosha.
"There's not a lot you can take away from (Bryant) but just make every shot he takes difficult with a hand near his face or close to his shooting hand," Sefolosha told the Thunder's official Web site. "You know he's going to go with different moves. He can do it all. He can penetrate and shoot the outside shot. You can't really take it away, just stay in front of him."
Coming off a 41-point effort against Atlanta - his 97th career 40-point game - Bryant looks for another big performance against the Thunder.
In three wins versus Oklahoma City in 2008-09, Bryant averaged 29.7 points on 49.2 percent shooting.
He scored 19 before sitting the entire fourth quarter of a 107-89 win at Ford Center on March 24. That was the Lakers' ninth straight victory over the Thunder franchise since a 117-101 loss at Seattle on Nov. 5, 2006.
Oklahoma City (2-1) returns to the Ford Center following Sunday's 83-74 home loss to Portland.
Looking for the franchise's first 3-0 start in six seasons, the Thunder shot a season-worst 34.3 percent from the field while committing a season-high 19 turnovers.
"Offense is what killed us tonight," Durant said after scoring a season-low 16 points and shooting 3 of 21 from the field. "We didn't take care of the ball, we didn't make shots. I think we made up for it on the defensive end. We put ourselves in a position to win the game, but we've got to score points."
Durant is 0-7 in his career versus the Lakers, but averaged 29.0 points and 8.7 boards against them in 2008-09.
Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook looks to bounce back from a career-high nine-turnover game against Portland. His 274 turnovers last season were the most in the league, and he had four in each of the three games versus the Lakers.
Los Angeles could again be without Pau Gasol, who has yet to play this season due to a strained right hamstring. Gasol accompanied the team to Oklahoma City, but the results of an MRI from Monday won't be available until Tuesday.
The Lakers were a league-best 29-12 on the road last season.

PROBABLE SLs:
Derek Fisher
Kobe Bryant
Ron Artest
Lamar Odom
Andrew Bynum
Russell Westbrook
Thabo Sefolosha
Kevin Durant
Jeff Green
Nenad Krstic
Looks like an easy win, but Im not counting out this young and talented OKC team, considering its a road game for us. Hopefully our guys take care of biz and leave the arena with a dubya, improving our record to 3-1. |

| This will be a fantastic test for Artest. It'd be awesome if he can keep Durant's FG around 30 per cent |

Don't be surprised if Russell Westbrook torches the 1 hole.
We have had it easy so far with past-prime PG's like Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, and Mike Bibby being slow enough to contain. It was Atlanta rookie Jeff Teague sparked that 4th quarter rally last game. We just don't have an answer for speed. |

Up next for Lakers: Tuesday at Oklahoma City
Both the Lakers and the Thunder have a 2-1 record, with bad losses at home.
AT OKLAHOMA CITY
When: 5 PST.
Where: Ford Center.
On the air: TV: Ch. 9; Radio: 710, 1330.
Records: Lakers 2-1, Thunder 2-1.
Record vs. Thunder (2008-09): 3-0.
Update: Both teams have the same record and both have a bad loss at home. Sounds like a good matchup. The Thunder fell Sunday against Portland, 83-74, even though Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge did not play in the second half because of a bruised knee. Kevin Durant made only three of 21 shots and former UCLA guard Russell Westbrook had nine turnovers for the Thunder.

Thunder players fired up for Lakers
If the wind chill is 10-below on a February night and the Minnesota Timberwolves are visiting the Ford Center, it’s understandable how Thunder players, coaches and fans might struggle warming up to the task at hand.
A visit from the Los Angeles Lakers, no matter what time of season, presents no such problem.
Such is the difference between the former Minneapolis franchise and its current franchise.
(By the way, the Timberwolves visit Feb. 26 this season. Kind of gives you a chill, huh?)
An 82-game regular season is a grind, but the blood has no problem circulating when the Lakers come to town, which happens to be tonight at 7.
Thunder players couldn’t throw the ball into the Pacific two nights ago in a home loss against Portland, but they’re juiced about facing the reigning world champions.
"I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t get any extra motivation,” Thunder backup point guard Kevin Ollie said of playing against the Lakers, which he has done 27 times in his career before tonight.
Ollie is in his 13th NBA season and Oklahoma City is his 15th stop. None of his previous jobs was with the Lakers.
Instead, Ollie’s association with the Lakers has been face-to-face, which included the 2001 NBA Finals as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, whom the Lakers beat 4 games to 1.
A product of Crenshaw (Calif.) High School, Ollie loved the Lakers and even attended a Magic Johnson summer camp when he was 8 or 9 years old, but Ollie never got the chance to see the Lakers play at the Fabulous Forum.
"Their tickets were kind of hot back then,” said the 36-year-old Ollie.
Thunder coach Scott Brooks played two years at Cal-Irvine and remains the most prodigious Anteater ever to make the NBA.
Though he was only 50 miles from The Forum, the Lakers were probably Brooks’ second-favorite team.
His heart belonged to the Philadelphia 76ers, for whom Brooks played his first two seasons in the league.
"I only wanted to play for the Sixers,” Brooks explained. "I loved Dr. J (Julius Erving) — loved him. Obviously a lot of people in California love the Lakers. I was never a (Laker) hater. I liked what they were about, but I wanted them to lose when they were playing against Philadelphia.”
Brooks got his wish in 1983, when the Sixers swept the Lakers in the finals.
Since moving to Los Angeles for the 1960-61 season, the Lakers have won 10 world championships. The Los Angeles Clippers have won 10 less than that.
Thunder backup guard Shaun Livingston played for the Clippers his first three years in the league and had to share the same town and home arena as the Lakers.
The Lakers and Clippers have cohabitated in Staples Center since it opened in 1999. Livingston said he has never visited in the Lakers’ locker room, which is a cut above the Clippers’.
The Clippers didn’t play second fiddle to the Lakers during Livingston’s first two seasons (2004-06), when the Clippers finished with a better regular-season record.
"It’s a Lakers town because of the tradition they have,” Livingston said. "The city is so big, there was still room enough for Clippers fans, but you could always feel the presence of the Lakers.”
As for tonight’s game, Livingston said, "Obviously, you get geared up to play the best. You’ve got all those superstars coming into your arena and you have a chance to really show your game.”
Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant and Co. are the guys to beat, the team against which you gauge your team. The Thunder is better, but how does it stack up against the best?
Brooks insists he prepares for the Lakers the same way he prepares for, say, the Timberwolves.
"We don’t put more into it just because it’s the Lakers, or less because it’s a lesser team with a bad record,” Brooks said. "We’re real consistent and diligent with all of our (preparation).”
The X’s and O’s are the same, yet different.
"There are tweaks defensively on what we have to do to stop their best players from going nuts against our defense,” Brooks said with a smile. "When you have Kobe coming to town, the Lakers and one of the best coaches ever, there’s definitely a little more excitement.”

Durant will be another good chance to see how important Artest can be for our team, and i'm sure Artest will be ready for that. We need the win, to get some momentum...and hopefully Pau's MRI will bring some good news.
Durant, Green & Westbrook are their top-3-guys...but don´t forget Krstic. He did a really bad game against Portland, and he will try to rebound against Drew. He has really good hand far from the rim, and thay will use that to remove Drew from there. But i still think that we will win this one.

| The Thunder are sure to be a much improved, talented young team but I still think it would be extremely disappointing if the Lakers were to lose this game. If Kobe doesn't play due to illness, I expect an even greater effort from the team and they should be able to ride the emotional surge to a win. If Kobe does play, the Lakers field a team that is more talented, more experienced, and should not lose. Let's hope the Lakers don't play down to the level of their competition and let's hope the guys don't underestimate the Thunder and assume that this is the same lousy Thunder team from last season. |

Lakers are in trouble. If they don't guard Green and Durant any better then what they did the first half I would say that they are in big trouble. Then Kobe got the ref's pissid off at him, so they are not going to call any fouls on the Thunder when they foul Kobe.
They got to go into the locker room and get the conposure they had in the first quarter. Play smart and they will win, but if they get pissed? then the Lakers might lose this game. Shannon didn't play good when he was in, too many fouls and Farmar turned the ball over and has not even scored. Sasha two shots and made one. They need to step up big time. Mbeng looked lost, so we can't count on him, might as well use Josh Powell. |

| Jordan Farmar didn't start. What game are you guys watching. Fisher was the starting point guard. Farmar relieved him, but he turned the ball over right away. |

Lakers are in trouble. If they don't guard Green and Durant any better then what they did the first half I would say that they are in big trouble. Then Kobe got the ref's pissid off at him, so they are not going to call any fouls on the Thunder when they foul Kobe.

Indeed. The refs are really annoying me.
But what is annoying me more is the Laker Bench.
I don't hate them, obviously... it just makes me VERY angry that they're not consistent every game
Now I really wish Gasol is here so that either Odom or Artest can be the sixth man and bring some fire from the bench. |

| I just noticed our bench is terrible. We really over paid most of the bench. The thing that made our bench look great is that, we have 5 solid starters and a good 6th man, thats usually on the court with the bench, now Pau is out.. The 6th man LO, is usually getting his rest. |

LOL an airball from the free throw line? That's shameful.
On another note, how many people would like me to start posting links to all of the games? |

Ugly win but I will take it!
Laker guards were terrible tonite. And once again the bench sucked. |

- Did we REALLY switch refs? Kobe couldnt get a call tonight...
- Andrew Bynum needs to play defense. Im tired of his "offense FIRST" mentality. He didnt protect the rim at all tonight...
- Did not take care of the ball. Way too many turnovers but most of those TOs were fouls that weren't called.
Im not happy with this win at all. The Thunder deserved it more.... |

| Artest played a great game on offense and he done a number on Durant the second half. Between him and Kobe they stopped Durant on his tracks. It was an ugly win, but I will take it. The free throw from Lamar in the end of the game was terrible. |
