Phil Jackson's contract to coach the Lakers expires after this season.
What happens next is anyone's guess.
Even the 64-year-old Jackson isn't sure about his future.
"I don't know what Phil's thinking," Kobe Bryant said when asked late Sunday night about chasing NBA championships with Jackson beyond 2009-10. "No one knows what Phil's thinking. Phil doesn't know what Phil's thinking. He's just living."
Jackson won his NBA-record 10th league title, breaking his tie with the late Red Auerbach, when the Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic in the Finals in June. Jackson said before training camp began that he has no idea whether he'll coach past this season.
"I have not talked to Jerry about it," he said, referring to Lakers owner Jerry Buss.

Jackson is in his fifth season in his second stint with the Lakers.
He also coached the team for five seasons between 1999 and 2004.
Jackson won six titles in nine seasons with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s.

Or as Jackson put it the other day: "He's liked
Phil is the best coach Lakers ever had.
Hopefully he stays 2 or 3 years. |
