It's the offseason, and of course some people are switching teams, but no recent year has compared to this one so far. EVERY team is getting better, and EVERY team is gearing up to try and beat the Lakers. Even the Lakers now are gearing up to feel safe.
Cleveland got Shaq
Magic got VC
We got Artest
NY might get Kidd
Boston might get Sheed
The Spurs got RJ
Pistons got Villanueva an Gordon
Atlanta got Crawford
Grizzlies added ZBO, Thabeet, and now maybe AI
and Hedo might go to Portland
All teams we thought were good last year have just gotten better, and even the teams who haven't made moves thus far are expected to improve, like Chicago and Miami. Memphis is gonna go on some kind of run of their own, and I'll tell you guys, this year's gonna be a dogfight. Every team is going in for the win, THIS YEAR. Everyone is working hard for dethroning the champs, and they're gonna give it everything they got. Strap your seatbelts on, It's gonna be a wild ridee. |

| In an offseason after a championship, the primary goal is to maintain the current team's primary players. We just IMPROVED our primary players. |

Ron Artest is that wild-eyed bastard who actually has skinned a cat in more than one way.
Forget the fact that he plays defense, shoots the three and is stronger than most guys an arms-length taller than him because this has little to do with basketball anymore. From now on, any team trying to beat the Los Angeles Lakers has to wonder if RonRon hasn’t already rummaged through their locker to get the names and addresses of their loved ones.
Forget guarding Kobe, boxing out Bynum or staying between Lamar and the cotton candy guy behind the basket. They’ll just want to get out of Staples Center without waking up to the business end a rape kit.
Who in the hell knows what RonRon’s up to?
Because he can play defense, shoot the three and arm wrestle Shaq to a draw, he became a household name. Now that he plays alongside Kobe, he gets to come into your living room three times a week and twice on Sunday. Guess who’s coming over for Christmas Dinner?
Laker fans will cheer his name while Laker haters will curse him (btw- that makes up just about every man woman and child on the planet). Either way, he’ll whip the entire basketball loving world into such a frenzy that, in the end, he’ll look like the only sane guy in the room, heiroglyphed haircut and all. His mom may have done crack into their collective second trimester but check him out now . . . He’s on top of the world!
The Lakers just went from talented pansies (their words), skipped tough all together, and are now downright dangerous (still their words). Trevor Ariza is a talented small forward with improving skills. This guy is something all together different and, in a weird way, marvelous if you like to stare at accidents on the side of the freeway and we both know that you do. Ron Artest isn’t a basketball player as much as he’s one stiff-drink in a crowded public place from being an orange jump-suited felon. And don’t think he don’t know you know this already.
As a Laker, as a member of the defending champions, as the sidekick to the most popular player of a billion currency-carrying china men, the world has become an insane asylum and guess who’s the most comfortable inmate in a straight jacket. This could be titles 16, 17 and 18 or this could be the end of the world. I’m just glad Phil’s on our side. I like our chances.
Because after yesterday, here’s the cold, hard truth: Opponents are no longer worried that they’re going to get beat. They’re seriously scared that they’re going to beat . . . if you know what I mean. |
