The Lakers are currently 1 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Phoenix Suns in the Pacific Division. They are also one game behind the New Orleans Hornets for the top spot in the Western Conference.
LA continues to play without forward Pau Gasol, who is sidelined with a sprained left ankle. Gasol, who was obtained from the Grizzlies in a midseason trade, is averaging 18.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in 19 games with the Lakers this season. The seven-footer has missed seven straight games.
The Lakers, who are 4-3 in the stretch without Gasol, acquired the talented Spaniard from Memphis on February 1 in exchange for center Kwame Brown, guard Javaris Crittenton, guard Aaron McKie, the draft rights to Marc Gasol and first round picks in 2008 and 2010.
Los Angeles opened the swing with a surprising loss. On Wednesday, Jason Richardson scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Charlotte Bobcats knocked off the Lakers, 108-95, at Staples Center.
Superstar Kobe Bryant scored 27 points before being ejected after a pair of fourth-quarter technical fouls for the Lakers, who have dropped two of their last three games overall. Lamar Odom finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Ronny Turiaf added 12 points and Sasha Vujacic and Luke Walton scored 11 apiece in defeat.
The Lakers are 24-10 as the home team this season. They will also host Washington, Portland and Dallas on the current homestand.
The Grizzlies play the middle contest of a three-game road swing tonight. On Wednesday, Sacramento's Kevin Martin scored 36 points, including the difference-making free throws with seven seconds left, and the Kings continued their home dominance of the Grizzlies by squeezing out a 107-106 overtime win.
Hakim Warrick led Memphis with 26 points and eight rebounds, while Kyle Lowry collected 16 points, five rebounds and five assists off the bench for the Grizzlies, who have dropped two straight overall and 19 in a row in Sacramento.
Memphis is 5-30 on the road this season. It will visit the Clippers on Saturday at the Staples Center.
The Lakers are 2-0 against Memphis this season and have won four of the last six contests in the series. The Grizzlies have lost two of their last three at the Lakers.
A victory tonight would give the Lakers their first season sweep over the Grizzlies since the 2002-03 campaign.

| I don't think they even really play Kwame now, last time I checked he played like 5 minutes in a game I think, could be wrong though. |

Actually that could be a possiblity. Philly has been playin some ball and beating alot of big boys in the process (Boston, Detroit, etc).
This could be a good night for us. That's assuming we win. And by the way we've been playing defense at home, that's not a guarantee. |

| It would have been cool if Bynum and Gasol could have played. Bynum was injured against this team, and the Grizzlies are Gasol's former team. It would have been interesting, oh well their health is the most important issue at hand. |
